of Batman, the evil genius Dr. Hugo Strange began his decades-long
crime career in the Golden Age, and has waged his wicked war on the world well
into the present day. Using a plethora of diabolical devices developed by his
deviant intellect, he is one villain who truly deserves the tried-and-true moniker
of 'mad scientist. According to Wikipedia: "[In the Golden Age] Hugo Strange first appears as a scientist who uses a stolen "concentrated lightning" machine that he uses to generate a dense fog, allowing him to rob banks unseen. In his second appearance he escapes from the "city asylum" (later known as Arkham Asylum) with "five insane patients" and uses them as test subjects, turning them into hulking zombies by administering a powerful artificial growth hormone that acted on the pituitary gland.
