| What
could be more fun than to blast off into an Atomic Age astronaut's playland?.
The designs of this era are an old fascination of mine, and I've found quite a
few sources of airstream rocketships and ray guns on the net,

The
folks over at Delta
7 Studios offer up some great model sets, my personal favorite of which
is their RetroRockets
Set, from which I borrow the name for this page, and present to you one of their
fine models. | ||

| This
is the smaller scale of the two models they offer of this design. It has less
fetail, but still presents nicely. Looking to create another set of mini-dioramas
like the MiniSubs I finished recently,
I decided to scale this one down even further to create a set of old-fashioned
space vessels.
From nose to tailfin, this
finished model is 2.5 inches or 6.35 cms long. At this size the
detail level is more than satisfying. I am currently putting together some ideas
for the diorama base of this model..

Talk
about FUN! This little project tickled me from the start! I took the ZOOT
Rocket down in scale, painted a logo on the tail and christened her "StarCom7"
then put her in flight over a diorama made up of
some of the best Atomic Age paper models I had, scaled down and integrated together.

you can see the new logo on the tail, and the "StarCom7" decal. At 2.75 inches (@7cm) this is a tiny treasure, that went together cleanly. |
.I
took the old 2.5D spaceport scan from the ALPHAVILLE
site, worked a little photohop magic, scratchbuilt a base and backdrop, et VOILA!
