The SEAVIEW

Original Kit
Issued: 1966 -73

Re-Issued: 2000

Defying fluid dynamics and pressure physics (I mean, who puts seal flippers and a picture window on a submarine, anyway?), the nuclear juggernaut Seaview dove into toy stores in the mid-60's and was a huge success. Though improbable, there is something very elegant about the lines of this craft.

This kit had a decent production run, and still retains it's popularity decades later. I remember seeing MIB original kits going for $300-$400 just a few months before Polar Lights released their repro kit. The PL kit is a recast, as the original Seaview molds were destroyed, so the original kits will only continue to go up in value.

Recently, a friend recounted a time he and a teenage buddy decided to create their own "special effects" shot, combining this model and an M-80. OUCH!

This little fella is one of my favorite TV sci-fi vehicles of all time. I always found the manta-shape pleasing to the eye and, with the exception [again] of a windshield, the design seemed somehow more probable than most others.

I still have the poor twisted hulk of an old build-up. It's painted a nasty gloss black, and actually has heat damage from it's use as an effects model in a high school super 8 flick. So now I'm on the hunt for a fresh kit to build. I might pick up the Monogram repop, just so I can build this baby. Where's the PL reissue?

The Crew working on a tough one...

VOYAGETO THEBOTTOMOF THESEA

Sep 1964 - Sep 1968 ./. 60 MIN - ABC

"The brainchild of Writer/Producer/Director Irwin Allen... the "Master of Disaster," [the show] ran on ABC from Sept. 14, 1964 to Sept. 15, 1968 for 110 episodes (32 in black and white [1964-65] and 78 in color [1965-68]), and was for its four years of airtime some of the best and most exciting science fiction on TV at the time. While the series became rather fanciful as it wore on, it remained an entertaining, action-filled adventure."

"Quiet! It's on!"
