This clever little synopsis of the classic 1925 Universal film was originally found on the now defunct SilentThrills.com site, which was created and hosted by the gothically-monikered Ravenswood
High School
. They graciously invited the material to be shared, as long as proper credit was given,
as I am happily doing now
(with some modification), so that their great work won't fade away. Enjoy!!

Our story opens with a ballet at the Paris Opera House..
.
As the performance ends, the purchase of the opera house is finalized. The new owners scoff when they are told they "may" hear tales of a ghost, a phantom of the opera!
.
Backstage, the dancers are startled by a strange shadow moving about them. Buquet, the stagehand, tells the dancers that he has seen the phantom - a faceless man with no nose living in the cellars deep within the opera house!.
.
The mother of Carlotta, the opera prima donna, tells the owners of a letter threatening her daughter if she sings in the next performance. Christine, Carlotta's understudy, sings the lead role at the next performance and is magnificent. Her career is launched!
.
After the performance Raoul, Christine's suitor, asks her to marry him. He is downcast when Christine tells him that her first love must always be the opera.
.
Raoul is startled when he hears Christine engaged in a conversation.
.
The voice from within the wall tells Christine that he has given her the world out of his love for her. The voice reveals that he will soon come to her. In a trance-like state, Christine says she will await him.
.
In spite of a second warning, Carlotta sings at the next performance.
As she sings, the giant chandelier crashes into the audience.
.
In the ensuing panic, Christine returns to her dressing room. Raoul arrives just as the phantom's voice beckons Christine to pass through her mirror into his world.
.
Christine will soon meet the source of the angel's voice that has entranced her!
