SO...HOW
COOL IS THIS? | |||

![]() | Apparently, as far as DENCOMM is concerned, you can never have too much of a good thing! First, they wow us with their most excellent incarnations of packaging-that-never-was for the Aurora Monster Scenes kits-that-never-were, the Animal Pit and the Dungeon, previously reviewed here. Now they follow that up with the release of reproductions of some of the rarest and most highly sought after Monster Scenes kits of all: Dracula, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and the pinnacle of elusive plastic gems - the Giant Insect! As before, these beauties are absolutely faithful recreations of the glorious ephemera of yesteryear. The crisp, lustrous images are rendered in the same 4-color offset process as the originals, on precision-cut cardstock; once assembled, their authenticity is unrivaled. No cheap laser-printer fakes here! | ||

| For
those unfamiliar with this chapter of the Aurora saga, these kits were
only released in Canada at the tail end of 1971, when the Monster
Scenes line was a target of parents' groups in the U.S., enraged at
what they saw as violently sexist imagery. Under this public pressure, parent
company Nabisco pulled the kits from the shelves. Dracula was rereleased
as part of the Monsters
of the Movies line, as was Dr. Jekyll - albiet divided up into
two kits. The Giant Insect, however, having no celluloid credibility,
was left to languish in obscurity.... until an upcoming repop
by Moebius Models, that is.... |
